Llave del Mundo Bilingual Child Development Home
Llave del Mundo Bilingual Child Development Home is a home-based child care and preschool program in Washington, DC. The child care facility is located near Kalorama Park in the Adams Morgan neighborhood of Washington, DC (off Columbia Rd NW and Calvert St NW, near the Woodley Park-Zoo/Adams Morgan Metro Station and the Smithsonian National Zoological Park). PHILOSOPHY: As a child care provider, I have a strong belief that ALL children are diverse and unique individuals who have strengths and are naturally curious. Children need to be provided with an organized, child-directed learning environment that emphasizes mutual respect, fun, discovery, literacy and addresses sensory needs. In a supportive environment, I will provide the conditions for all children to construct knowledge, focusing on the learning process rather than the end product. Program Philosophy is based on principles of child development supporting the child to gain a sense of self-worth by helping them develop at their own individual pace while learning basic skills feeling confident, secure enough to explore and grow in a stimulating educational and social environment. CURRICULUM: I incorporate a preschool curriculum into our daily activities to support infants and toddlers to have a nurturing, consistent, and loving environment, and to prepare older children for school. I offer individual activities that are specifically designed to help the child grow and develop based on his/her strengths and weaknesses; addressing all areas of development. I use The Creative Curriculum® for Preschool and Montessori curriculum that includes new research and theories from the field of early childhood education into a practical, easy-to-understand approach to working with children and their families. It is a comprehensive curriculum with a clear organizational structure and a particular focus on interest areas. MISSION: I am a dedicated and supportive provider and the mission of my program is to: - Continue to grow professionally in order to better serve children and families. - Provide appropriate services to ALL children. - Utilize strengths and challenge weaknesses. - Foster self-esteem while celebrating children’s successes. - Establish a fun and safe learning environment. - Enable children to make discoveries and realize their potential. - Support and build a trusting relationship with parents, children, and other professionals in my community. GOALS: - To offer early childhood care services in a way that is specifically designed by my knowledge in early childhood education, according to the family’s priorities, beliefs, and needs of the child. - To develop a nurturing relationship with each child and their family. - To provide play opportunities for all children who are enrolled in my program. - To provide support and help for families as they seek out resources to meet their child’s needs. To help children: - Develop effective communication skills; - Develop the ability to choose and follow through on personally meaningful experiences; - Develop large and small muscles through play-based activities; - By demonstrating through interaction with the developmentally appropriate environment and through self-initiated and teacher-facilitated activities, increasing levels of conceptual and cognitive development; - By demonstrating an awareness of daily routine; - Develop a level of independence in self-care skills; - Develop problem-solving strategies; - Develop aesthetic appreciation as they explore the developmentally appropriate environment around them

These objectives are fully aligned with the Head Start Child Development and Early Learning Framework and state early learning standards and integrated into each and every one of the comprehensive collection of resources that makes up the curriculum. Educators can be confident that they are meeting important early learning standards every day, even while bringing their own creativity and expertise into daily planning. What’s more, the curriculum also offers daily opportunities to individualize instruction by helping teachers meet the needs of every learner, with a particular focus on English language development. In addition to the Creative Curriculum, Mrs. Moore considers the children's inquiries as an extension to the curriculum to ensure that the children comprehend what they are taught. Mrs. Moore provides a literacy-rich environment that includes field trips to the local library for Story Time and the children are provided with the opportunity to apply for a Library Card and browse and check out a book of their choice. Mrs. Moore is sensitive to the fact that children are active, therefore outdoor activities are a daily event when weather permits if only for a few minutes. These activities include neighborhood strolls and visits to the local parks to allow children to develop gross motor skills. Mrs. Moore has an extensive portfolio and references that she shares during interviews and is highly recommended by parents and local school officials.

Northwest Settlement House CDC

The Northwest Settlement House Infant and Toddler Early Learning Center provides stimulating and nurturing child care for infants and toddlers ages 6... weeks to 3 years. We are an intimate organization serving no more than 44 families in our daytime program. In September 2009, the Infant and Toddler Early Learning Center was opened to compete with the start of the art Providers in the Washington, DC Area. Our Center is bright, full of windows and can be viewed from the 7th Street side. We are located on the 1st floor of the Madison Haven Apartments, directly across from the Shaw/Howard Metro Station. Entrance is on the S Street side. The Center is currently undergoing accreditation by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). The NWSH accepts families who participate in the District of Columbia Childcare Subsidy Program, and Private Pay and Corporate families. All interested parents/guardians who wish to enroll their child at NWSH should contact the center. Families are placed on a wait list and once a space opens up in the child's age group the next family will be contacted. There is no special preference for any given families; Enrollment to NWSH is based on space availability and overall capacity. All new families are required to participate in an orientation with the Center Director. Once the family has gone through orientation, an enrollment packet needs to be completed. The NWSH Infant and Toddler Early Learning Center uses the Creative Curriculum® for Infants, Toddlers, and Two's. We agree with the overall mission of the Creative Curriculum®, that children learn best by doing! We want children to become creative and enthusiastic learners by exploring their ideas and teaching them to not be afraid to act on those ideas. The curriculum allows children to learn at their own pace and in ways that are best for them.
